2025 Ranger XP 1000 NorthStar vs Defender Limited: Comfort
The Ranger XP 1000 NorthStar features a three- or six-seat cab with premium bench-style seating, ergonomic support, adjustable positioning, and angled seat backs. The factory-installed Pro Shield cab system has powered front windows and a full-glass tip-out windshield (fixed windshield models are available). The two work together to block out noise and protect you from the elements, while a factory-installed HVAC system keeps you comfortable no matter what season it is.

Engine
The Ranger XP 1000 NorthStar features an 82-horsepower ProStar 4-stroke Twin Cylinder DOHC engine.
The Defender Limited has a similarly powered 82-horsepower Rotax® HD10 V-twin engine.
Transmission
The Ranger XP 1000 NorthStar’s engine is paired with a Polaris Variable Transmission (PVT) a continually variable transmission designed by the engineers at Polaris. It has a high and low gear to offer the right amount of torque for the job you’re doing.
The Defender Limited’s engine is also paired with a CVT transmission with high and low gears.
Drive Train
The Ranger 1000 XP NorthStar has three drive modes: all-wheel drive (AWD), two-wheel drive (2WD), and a VersaTrac Turf mode that allows you to unlock the rear differential, giving your more control during turns and preventing damage to your lawn when you’re working close to home.
The Defender Limited also has three driver modes: 2WD, four-wheel drive (4WD), and selectable turf mode that works much the same way as the VersaTrac Turf mode.

Ranger XP 1000 NorthStar has a towing capacity of up to 2,500 pounds which is matched by the Defender Limited.
